Graffiti -Street art
or crime?
So which is it? On the face of it, as a society, we seem to be a little mixed-up between graffiti and Street Art. Around 85 per cent of graffiti is nothing more than just tags, another 10 per cent being gang communication. However “Street Art” has often been described as somewhere between glorified vandalism or a legitimate cultural movement.
Judges, having sentenced street artists have often acknowledged there considerable artistic talent but on conviction state fact :- Spraying all over other people's property without their consent is simply vandalism?
Points to consider...
Street Art is constructive, Graffiti Tagging is destructive. Street Art stretches your mind, Graffiti Tagging is a slap in your face. Street Art is about the audience, Graffiti Tagging is about the tagger. Street Art says "Have you thought about this?" Graffiti Tagging says "I tag, therefore I exist".
